CALL FoR SUBMISSIONS

Spruce Street Magazine is looking to assemble its inaugural issue of Philadelphia’s queer literature. Are you a writer? Submit poems, fiction, and nonfiction creative prose to sprucestreetmag [at] gmail.com.

Submission Guidelines

Spruce Street accepts submissions of poetry, fiction, and creative essays via email at sprucestreetmag [at] gmail.com. For our first open call of submissions, we’ll continue accepting unsolicited pieces until May 30. Please note that we only accept submissions via email. Any work sent via social media or form will not be opened or considered—unless specified as a solicited submission. Spruce Street does not maintain a mailing address and does not accept submissions via post.

All submissions to our magazine should be in English and not appear in print or digitized publications previously. We make an exception for personal websites, as well as secondary school and collegiate-affiliated literary magazines. Submitters should include a cover letter with their submission, briefly introducing their interest in Spruce Street and their publication history. All submissions should be attached via a PDF or Word document file. We ask that submitters also include a short bio.

Writers should only submit to Spruce Street once per reading cycle. We aim to respond to all submissions within a 30 day timeframe. Guidelines for submissions by genre can be found below:

Poetry: up to 5 poems, of any length

Fiction: up to 3000 words

Creative Essay: up to 3000 words. If you are submitting a nonfiction piece that makes any use of reportage, please flag this in your cover letter. If accepted, we will require additional steps to proof the essay.
